Strategic location

Located between several production routes, 700 km from the federal capital, 580 km from the city of São Paulo and 434 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro, Contagem is interconnected by state and federal highways, BR-040 (Brasília and Rio of January), BR 262 (Vitória-ES and Triângulo Mineiro) and BR-381 (São Paulo). The municipality is only 55 km away from the International Airport of Confins, 53 km from the Industrial Airport of Confins and 25 km from the Regional Airport of Pampulha, which further complements the entire multimodal system of Contagem which also has the Railway Network Centro-Atlântica, which allows rail transportation to the Midwest, Northeast and Southeastern Brazil.

 

Receptive to companies

Contagem is one of the most important cities in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil’s largest consumer hub, and also because it is one of the only cities in the State to have a debureaucratization program for the opening of small, medium and large enterprises.

 

Attractive human resources

With 72% of the population between the ages of 15 and 64 (Source / Elaboration: Atlas of Human Development in Brazil 2013) and more than 15 higher education institutions, technical and professional institutions, which guarantees a high level of professional qualification. Considering the population estimated for 2017, the municipality of Contagem is the third most populous in the State of Minas Gerais, behind Belo Horizonte and Uberlândia.

With its high HDI: 0.756, Contagem has been showing its strong tendency in the constant evolution of the quality of life. Due to its low cost of living the municipality has shown for Brazil and the world, that there are several reasons to invest here, the 1st Industrial City of the country.

 

Industrial Tradition and Economic Diversity

Contagem industry was born from the efforts to promote industrial growth in the state and was supported by large industry groups worldwide. The metallurgical sector and the food industry have always been the basis of this development. Together with this process, a strong tertiary sector was also developed, which supported the industrial growth itself, as well as the growth of the local population and neighboring municipalities.

 

Strong economy

Contagem occupies the 3rd position, of most important city, among the municipalities of Minas Gerais, with great representativeness and importance in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, mainly in the fields of transformation industry, commerce, services and logistics. As for its economy, in 2016 it had the 3rd largest GDP of the State and the 26th of Brazil (Source: FJP 2019)
